This bill aims... "To amend Sections 31-9-8 and 31-9-10, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the emergency powers of the Governor and of local political subdivisions, to specify that these powers do not authorize the seizure or confiscation of firearms or ammunition from persons lawfully authorized to possess them and to specify certain conditions when a law enforcement officer may disarm an individual." - excerpted from the Alabama Legislative Information System Online website regarding HB 225 by Representative Keahy - Judiciary Committee. Title linked to the Alabama Legislative Information System Online website (ALISON).
Considering the New Orleans gun grab post-Katina, I believe this is one to get behind. It appears that nowhere in the Code of Alabama 1975 (current edition) is there any protection of civilian right to bear arms during a state of emergency. So, putting it in writing makes a lot of good sense to me. Thank you Representative Keahy.
