So, I just have to ask...

Read a bit on the ol' MSNBC this evening (just the cover link actually) that 50% of Americans believe they are fairly taxed. My question, mostly rhetorical in nature, is that the same 50% that mostly don't pay any taxes?

Unless you have a strong stomach, DO NOT add up all of the taxes you have paid in your lifetime. The sum will be most disturbing...

  2. Unfortunately, I have been keeping track of all of my expenditures over the last 6 or 7 years and what category (ies) they fall into... including taxes.

It is painful to look and realize that 60 to 65 percent of what I earn is paid out in taxes.

This, of course, counts taxes exacted from my pay check and sales tax and taxes on fuel and vehicle registrations and phones and on and on and on...

  3. The president is touting "we all need to pay our fair share" which means:

    1) There will be more people paying no taxes and getting refunds.

    2) Those people already paying the most will be paying even more.

Now when I grew up, fair had a different meaning. Given the 'new fair' Not only do I get the majority of the cake when I slice it, I also get to punch you in the nose - to be fair.
